WIN! Return flights for two with Air Transat to Toronto or Montréal…

Travel in comfort on an Air Transat flight (Air Transat)

Nowhere combines cosmopolitan culture with rugged nature quite like Canada. Now, thanks to Air Transat, voted the World’s Best Leisure Airline, you could be jetting off to explore Toronto and Montréal, making the most of two Business Class VIA Rail tickets between the two cities, and soaking up the nature on the doorsteps of both destinations. Here’s what to expect…

Toronto

Nothing says cosmopolitan Canada quite like gazing out from the top of the CN Tower in Toronto. From 535m, you can enjoy views over the city’s skyline and across to the waters of Lake Ontario. It’s the perfect contrast for when you’re cycling the islands with views of the metropolis. Finish at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario, where you can see even more perspectives.

Creativity can also be found in Toronto’s culinary scene. Don’t miss the St. Lawrence Market, one of the city’s oldest landmarks. The car-free Distillery District is also a must for local food, plus you can visit a brewery before trying some poutine.

Outside of the city, nature awaits.  More than 250,000 lakes are found in Ontario, making this the ideal place for kayaking. But the most famous body of water here is Niagara Falls. The  51m-high and 792m-wide Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three Niagara cascades, is unforgettable.  After, toast your adventurous day with a glass of ice wine – Ontario’s wineries produce 90% of the ice wine made in Canada.

Montréal

With VIA Rail, Canada’s national rail service, you can get from Toronto to Montréal in about five hours. Once there, stretch your legs on a tour of the old city to see the Notre-Dame de Bonsecours Chapel, the Old Port and Rue Saint-Jacques West, formerly Canada’s Wall Street. It’s not all about the past, though, and the city’s myriad street murals and the 8,000 artworks in the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal offer just as much to ponder.

Pair culture with nature by visiting the botanical garden, which boasts ten exhibition greenhouses. Or explore on two wheels by following the 13km bike trail alongside the Lachine Canal. Then reward your efforts by refuelling at Jean-Talon Market, one of the largest open-air markets in North America.

Finally, leave the city to spy whales at Saguenay-St-Lawrence Marine Park or to go hiking in the McGerrigle Mountains, where black bears, moose, and bald eagles can all be spotted.
