If, like us, you were glued to your screen during Endurance: Race to the Pole, we have good news: Ben Fogle and Dwayne Fields are back with another history-inspired adventure.

Swapping the below freezing temperatures of the South Pole for the heat of the River Nile, the pair will be donning Victorian garb and using the same equipment (and even eating the same food…) as they follow in the footsteps of explorers Dr David Livingstone, Richard Francis Burton, John Hanning Speke and Henry Morton Stanley for Endurance: Race for the Nile.

The famed adventurers explored Africa during the 1800s to map the continent and, ultimately, to find the source of the Nile. Both the Ancient Egyptians and the Romans previously attempted to find the source of the Nile, and the topic is still debated to this day.

At the time of Endurance: Race to the Pole was first announced back in August, Ben Fogle said of the show, “This isn’t just a journey down the Nile; it’s a deep dive into the minds of the Victorian adventurers who risked everything in pursuit of the ultimate prize – the elusive Source of the Nile. It’s a story of ambition, rivalry, and resilience, and I can’t wait for viewers to experience this incredible adventure alongside them.

“The reaction to Race to the Pole was like nothing I could have imagined and I can’t wait to join October and Channel 5 to bring help bring this timeless tale back to life.”

Endurance: Race to the Pole will air at 9pm on Sunday 9 February on Channel 5. There are two 60-minute episodes – the second will air Sunday 16 February.

Didn’t catch Endurance: Race to the Pole? The documentary series is available to watch on the Channel 5 website now.

The three-part, BAFTA-nominated series saw Fogle and Fields follow in the footsteps of Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott, reliving the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904), the Nimrod Expedition (1907-1909) and the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913).
