The growing popularity in rail travel has proven that finding joy in the journey is now just as important as the destination. And if you want to take your next trip to the grandest level possible, we have good news, as the Britannic Explorer is now accepting bookings.
Set to launch on 4 July, the locomotive will be the first luxury sleeper train in England and Wales. Belmond, who are behind the Britannic Explorer, already operate the British Pullman, which offers day trips, and the Royal Scotsman, which is a touring sleeper train through the Scottish Highlands.
Departing from London, there are three routes to choose from, each lasting three nights. Passengers will be able to enjoy the natural landscapes of Cornwall, The Lake District and Wales from the observation car at night, and take part in optional excursions during the day, with guided hikes, wild swimming and visits to key sights all on the itinerary.
Designed by London-based studio Albion Nord, there are 15 suites and three grand suites on board, as well as a dining car, observation car and bar, and a spa – the first on rails in England and Wales. The colour palette throughout the train has been inspired by the natural world seen on the journey, with artworks from English artist Luke Edward Hall.
Belmond has partnered with Wildsmith for its wellness suite, curating treatments exclusive to, and inspired by, the journey. Treatments include facials and massages, as well as the Signature Circadian Rhythm Reset treatment which takes place across the day, with a morning session focusing on revitalisation, a purifying treatment at midday, and a calming ritual in the evening.
The dining cart offering will be equally impressive, having been curated by restaurateur Simon Rogan. Menus will feature locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, and include afternoon tea, lunch and dinner. The bar has been inspired by Victorian apothecaries and will include a number of botanically inspired cocktails as well as artisanal gins and craft beers from independent distilleries and breweries across the UK.
Formerly known as Orient-Express Hotels, Belmond is well known for its once-in-a-lifetime trips. The brand currently run the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express between London and Venice; the Eastern and Oriental Express, taking in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand & Laos; and the Belmond Andean Explorer in Peru.
