One of only two everglade systems in the world, the other being found in Florida, the Noosa Everglades are one of Australia’s best kept secrets. Known as the River of Mirrors because of its stunning reflections, the Noosa Everglades cover a 60km stretch of pristine waterways as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna.

There are numerous ways to explore the everglades. Visitors can paddle from Boreen Point, take a leisurely boat ride from Noosaville or explore by foot. There’s also the chance to go sailing or kite surfing on Lake Cootharaba or simply relax at the historic Apollonian Hotel and enjoy a cold beer. The everglades are just a short 25 minute drive from Noosa Heads and are easily reachable from Brisbane.

Those searching for a natural swimming spot need not look any further than the Noosa Fairy Pools in Noosa National Park, which are the Sunshine Coast’s natural spas. These two natural tidal pools lay low between the basalt rocks just west of the tip of the headland at the eastern end of Granite Bay, near Noosa. There are several different types of coral and sponges that can be seen so be sure to pack a snorkel.

The quickest and easiest way to access these pools is to park at Little Cove and walk around the spectacular coast path, past Tea Tree Bay and Granite Bay. There’s also a chance to spot one of Australia’s most iconic wildlife – the koala – in the park.

Noosa is world renowned for having some of the best surfing breaks in the world and wherever you should decide to try one of Australia’s favourite past times can enjoy crystal clear water, magnificent views, an abundance of marine life as well as, of course, some big waves.

For beginners, head to Little Cove, Noosa Main Beach or First Point to enjoy calmer waves with protected breaks. Advanced surfers should test their skills at Nationals, Granite Bay and Alexander Bay, where there are bigger waves.

Looking for something a little more gentle? One of the most romantic places in Queensland, the Noosa Spit is an untouched stretch of beach where the white sand meets the crystal clear waters. It’s an ideal beach for a picnic and some sundowners. The beach is also protected from the bigger surf waves so is a great spot for swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and sailing.

With award-winning restaurants, cafés and bars, Noosa is a food lovers paradise, and it’s even home to one of Australia’s biggest food and wine festivals. Taking place from 16-19 May 2019, Noosa’s Food & Wine Festival is comprised of more than 70 delectable events showcasing some of the country’s best chefs and beautiful locations.

Events take place at the new Festival Village in Noosa Heads Lions Park, under the Noosa Tipi on Noosa Main Beach, along Hastings Street for the Long Lunch and in signature restaurants throughout Noosa as well as on produce and brewery trails throughout the hinterland.

Foodies will want to sample the fare available at the Noosa Farmer’s Market, held every Sunday under the shade of the gum trees at the local football grounds. The market is famous for its organic produce, skin care products, marinades, sauces, freshly baked breads and cheeses.

For a real treat, head to the pretty town of Eumundi on Sunday or Wednesday for its sprawling market. A Sunshine Coast institution you’ll find original artworks, sculptures, furniture, handmade toys, homewares, skincare, candles and clothing, as well as the best street food on the coast. Have your palms read, get a massage or watch a busker strum a tune or two. You’re in for a treat.
