A new rail service between London and Edinburgh is being launched next month, offering rail travellers tickets between the two capitals for as little as £14.90 one way.

Operated by FirstGroup, the new Lumo service will be much more affordable than the services currently offered and hopes to become a cheaper and greener alternative to flying between London and Scotland.

The service will run ten trains a day between Kings Cross in London and Edinburgh’s Waverley station, calling at Stevenage, Morpeth and Newcastle. Lumo trains will only offer one class of service and promises that 60% of the seats on each train will cost £30 or less. No seat will cost more than £69 each way.

During the launch period (25th Oct – 1st Dec 2021) every single seat booked up to 1 day before travel will cost £19.90 or less.

‘Travelling in the UK should not cost a fortune,’ said Helen Wylde, managing director of Lumo, ‘And it certainly shouldn’t be the planet that pays.’
