From the Editor: The best from myWanderlust this week
It’s always great to welcome some new blood to myWanderlust. This week Machin123 breezed into town and swept up all and sundry in a whirlwind of breathless enthusiasm
A very warm welcome to Machin123, our newest member, joining on 3 September. And congratulations as well. Her experiences post on Tibet is the first we’ve had with OMG! in the title.
It’s a great post too. It wasn’t long before I was being carried along by her tale of her trip from Kunming to Lhasa. From old men in Mao suits to an old lady shepherd, controlling her sheep with a catapult, it’s a high octane adventure that made me want to jump on the first flight to China.
Check out her other experiences on Vietnam and Cambodia and Washington too. Great tales. In need of a few paragraph breaks, but hey, it takes a while to figure out the quirks of the myWanderlust system.
Lots of great new pics in the photography section too. Carodragon takes us on a tour of the atmospheric streets she came across on her cruise around the Mediterranean. Yellowstone National Park makes an appearance again after an absence of a couple of weeks courtesy of AngelaR. And Robertojeda’s moody collection of B&W photos from Ecuador capture the spirit and soul of the South American nation.
Still in photography, battle-hardened myWanderlust veteran FintownTrekker shows his softer side by posting photos of butterflies, frogs and feathers. While Cornish evangelist LaurenAmelia surprises by not posting sun-flecked photos of her beloved homeland. Instead she treats us to some stunning photos of Switzerland. I popped over to just back from and discovered why. She went home to Cornwall last weekend and it rained the whole time. I knew it!
Speaking of just back from, it’s bursting with tips and recommendations from myWanderlusters, fresh back from their summer breaks. Machin123 is there with a triumvirate of entries on Vietnam, Tibet and Washington. Springer recommends learning to drink vodka before visiting Poland. BillBain suggests checking out the Mt Hagan cultural show in PNG. And bostona just got back from San Fran and says you must try the oyster shooters at Sotto Mare, a tiny Italian-American seafood restaurant on Green Street
Meet the Gringo doesn’t have much to say about Sri Lanka. Apart from that it was amazing and to remind us again that he didn’t pay for it after winning a photo comp.
Speaking of photo comps offering a prize of a trip to a fantastically exotic destination, have you entered the mighty Wanderlust Travel Photo of the Year competition? Not only do you win the admiration and recognition from your peers, we’ll also pack you off to Colombia on a photo assignment. Enter here.
Anyway, better go. I’m off to Nairobi for a week. My colleague Daisy Cropper will be doing this blog next week so make sure you put loads of new stuff up for her to talk about.
But don’t go flooding the photography galleries with sunny photos from Cornwall.
Yes, LaurenAmelia. I’m talking to you.
