Liza Skripka created her travel blog, Tripsget.com, more than six years ago when she failed to find an itinerary for visiting Thailand in just five days. Since then, her main focus areas are itineraries for busy professionals with a 9-5 job, who want to get as much as possible out of their annual leave allowance and weekend trips across Europe and the UK. She is also active on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, where she is sharing her experience visiting new places in London beside her usual travel content.

Liza has been nominated for the Travel Media Influencer of the Year award at the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2022. Here, we get to know Liza and find out more about her life of travel, including her favourite cities, dream destinations and unforgettable travel memories…

Hey Liza! Let’s get started. What is your most unforgettable travel experience?

I would say in Peru with my partner. We were quite unlucky to go during a time with different protests and train cancellations, so we pretty much got stuck at Machu Picchu in Aguas Calientes. We had a flight to take the next day to Bolivia, it was really time sensitive and we couldn’t rebook it, so we had to get out of Machu Picchu whatever it takes. We basically hiked for 10 kilometres with all our bags on the train tracks, then we waited for a lot of minibuses and changed minibus three times. It took us eight hours to get to Cusco – but we made it!

Where have you not been yet that you are desperate to visit?

For me, that would be Patagonia. I am a huge fan of dramatic landscapes and mountains. I love hiking (although I’m not too active, like a proper hiker) but I would love to visit this region as the photos and videos I’ve seen from there are mind blowing.

I also want to visit other parts of Argentina and Chile, and hopefully I will be able to go there next year. I’ll be doing everything I can to arrange this trip!

Wanderlustsees travel as a force for good. How do you think influencers help with that?

In my opinion, travel influencers have a power to help destinations and smaller businesses. Some countries heavily depend on tourism, and when COVID arrived a lot of businesses in a lot of countries started suffering with the lack of tourists. What I think travel influencers are doing now is helping those countries by spreading the word about them, and essentially bringing more people to these places that genuinely need help.

What is your favourite city in the world?

This is tricky for me as I have three cities. My first choice is Hong Kong. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to study in Hong Kong on a semester abroad, and I loved it! In my opinion, it is the perfect city. I love the combination of skyscrapers and great nature. It has amazing hikes, beautiful beaches, lovely people and great food!

The next city is Edinburgh. I think Edinburgh in Scotland is the most beautiful and unique city in the world. I was also enough to study there for my masters.

The last city is London. Out of all the cities in the world I’ve chosen London as my home, because it’s such a great city. I love it.

Where do you think are the main emerging destinations and why?

I would say the next emerging destinations are in the region of West Asia and Central Asia, so countries like Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan: These countries have amazing rich history, beautiful architecture and really really good food. The only thing that’s missing are more affordable flights, so I hope that changes in the future.

If you could travel to one country for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

For me, it would probably be Italy. I try to travel to Italy once or twice every year. It’s a beautiful country with amazing architecture, it has wonderful people, it has mountains for hiking, it has beautiful beaches, it has islands. And the food is so majestic and different across different regions in the county. It would probably take a year of full time travel to discover everything in Italy. Seeing as I have a full-time job and I kind of travel full-time, it will probably take the rest of my life to discover the entire of Italy.
