Barbados is thought to be the birthplace of rum. Mount Gay distillery was founded in 1703 and is believed to produce the oldest rum in the world.

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for these cheeky little animals. You’ll likely see them in the trees, usually munching on some sugar cane.

Watching these winged fish jumping above the sea’s surface is mesmerising. They’re also one of the nation’s favourite dishes, so be sure to taste one, too.

What’s the weather like?
The dry season runs through British winter and spring and the wet season happens during our summer and autumn. Whenever you decide to go, you’ll be warm, with average temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius.
Do I need a visa?
Most countries, including the United Kingdom, do not require a visa to get into Barbados, as long as you’re not planning on staying for longer than six months – and trust us, you’ll be tempted to.
What currency is used in Barbados?
The currency in Barbados is the Barbadian dollar. Every 10 Barbadian dollars works out at about four British pounds. US dollars will be accepted and ATMs are widely available.
