The best from myWanderlust this week

A little bit of West Africa in Windsor

Have you seen Simon Fenton’s gallery of photos from Senegal yet? Pop over and have a look at them now. They capture everything I love about travel – the colour, the sounds, the smells, the other-worldliness. If I could find a cheap enough fare I’d be off to West Africa this weekend.

Judging by the posts being put up on the Forum, other people’s minds are turning to foreign climes too. Bladelogan is planning a cross-country trip from New York to California. Tomysz is heading to the Carpathian Mountains in Romania and TravelChick is looking to get active in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. They’re all looking for advice and tips and you can give them yours here.

Other myWanderlusters have returned from their travels, brimming with inside tips and hard-won advice. Welshdragon has the lowdown on spotting wildlife on Vancouver Island. Keithruffles has advice on surviving 24 hours of daylight on Spitsbergen. And TheBogtrotter has some tips on watching the beautiful people parading on Miami Beach without getting yourself arrested.

HappilyWandering has colonised Experiences with a trio of tales from her happy wanderings up the east coast of Australia – from the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne and then to the sun and surf in Noosa. Keithruffles, on the other hand, falls for the oldest trick in the book, when he goes searching for haggis in the highlands of Scotland. I just hope there was a nice single malt waiting for him at the end of it.

Our photography section pretty much covers the whole globe this week. As well as Simon Fenton’s set from Senegal, TheBogtrotter presents us with the birds of Belize, ColinO has loaded up a great selection of images from Sofia and mattcoppin gives us the spectacular landscapes of the Lake District. Popcornaddict has uploaded a set of chilly pics from Syktyvkar in Russia and considerably warmer set from Corfu. PollyAllen captures the irrepressible spirit of Iceland in her group of photos, while Taniya takes us by the hand through the poppy fields of the Pyrenees in spring.

Make sure you check out sonal08’s pics from Cinque Terre in Italy and ATPTravels images from Namibia. Very colourful and well worth a look.

A bit like myWanderlust itself.
