Catching the northern lights is one of the most magical travel experiences you can have, and seeing the sky dance in shades of green and pink is special no matter the angle.
But if you want to take your viewing experience up a notch, we have good news, as you’ll soon be able to watch the celestial spectacle from 30,000ft thanks to the relaunch of Aurora 360 charter flights in the Yukon.
After a six-year absence, the flight experience is set to relaunch in the Canadian territory in February 2026. Passengers will have the chance to see the aurora borealis up close aboard a private Air North aircraft.
The relaunch has been timed to coincide with the peak of the 11-year solar cycle. While scientists won’t know the exact peak of solar activity until after the fact, the solar maximum of Solar Cycle 25 is predicted to occur at some point between 2023 and 2026, making the upcoming winter season one of the most powerful for northern lights viewing.
You can book onto the special flight through a package with Northern Lights Resort & Spa, which includes a guaranteed window seat on the Aurora 360 charter flight, three nights in either a private alpine chalet or aurora glass chalet followed by two nights at the Best Western Gold Rush Inn in downtown Whitehorse, as well as internal flights between Vancouver and Whitehorse.
Tobias Barth, owner of Northern Lights Resort & Spa said, “This is a rare opportunity to see the Northern Lights at their most spectacular, both in the sky and from the land. Guests can experience the thrill of the aurora from 30,000 feet, then return to their chalet, enjoy a glass of wine, and watch the lights reappear above the forest. It’s Yukon magic at its finest.”
Canada As You Like It is offering a seven-night Aurora trip, which includes all of the above as well as two nights in Vancouver plus return flights to Heathrow.
