Fiji introduces ‘Loloma Hour’ to encourage tourists to give back while travelling Fiji introduces ‘Loloma Hour’ to encourage tourists to give back while travelling
Here at Wanderlust, we’ve long believed that tourism is a force for good. While you get to learn more about a new culture, your tourism dollar is put to work supporting local guides, sustainability or wildlife projects and more.
And now there’s another way for you to give back – if you’re travelling to Fiji, that is. The South Pacific archipelago has introduced a new initiative called ‘Loloma Hour’, where visitors are encouraged to spend an hour making a positive environmental, cultural, or community impact during their stay.
Activities you can sign up for fall under four main pillars: Giving back to wildlife, the community, the reef, and the coastline. You can go on guided nature walks or help with manta ray or iguana conservation; keep local traditions alive by booking in for cooking classes, storytelling sessions or village visits; take part in coral planting or marine habitat building; and help safeguard Fiji’s coastline through beach clean-ups and mangrove planting.
The initiative takes its name from the Fijian spirit of Loloma, which is acting with generosity, driven by love.

Tourism Fiji hope that visitors will contribute at least 5,000 hours towards sustainability efforts in its first year, leaving a meaningful impact on the country’s ecosystems, coastlines and local communities.
“True happiness comes not just from what you take, but what you give,” says Srishti Narayan, Chief Marketing Officer, Tourism Fiji. “Loloma Hour gives visitors a chance to help preserve what makes Fiji so special—its people, environment, and traditions.”
Across the country, 21 resorts are taking part in Loloma Hour, meaning you won’t struggle to fit in both Loloma Hour and happy hour in one day.
These include: InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Six Senses Fiji, Nukubati Private Island, Barefoot Kuata Island Resort, Barefoot Manta Island Resort, Lomani Island Resort, Plantation Island Resort, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji, Vatuvara Private Islands, Seventh Heaven Floating Bar, VOMO Island Fiji, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji (JMC), Viani Bay Resort, Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Fiji, Wakaya Club & Spa, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, Likuliku Lagoon Resort, Malolo Island Resort, Mana Island Resort & Spa, Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, and Kokomo.
