23 gardens across the Portuguese capital will be hosting guided tours, nature walks and workshops each weekend as part of the Jardins Abertos festival

There’s only one place we want to be in the spring months, and that’s out in nature, stopping to smell the roses (or tulips, or peonies, or whatever else is in bloom and catches our eye).

And if you’re going to be in Lisbon next month, you can do that completely for free in some of the Portuguese capital’s most beautiful gardens as they open to the public for the Jardins Abertos festival.

Jardins Abertos, or Open Gardens, which is now in its 14th edition, will see selected gardens across the city offer guided tours, workshops, nature walks and gardening activities over the weekends of 3-4, 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25 May.

This year, 23 gardens are taking part, although not every garden will be open every weekend. You’ll be able to visit parks like the Estufa Fria botanical garden, the Garden of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and the Parque Florestal de Monsanto, the largest green patch in the city.

Newly-established parks, like the MACAM Garden, Jardins do Bombarda, and Jardim do Caracol da Penha, will also be taking part. You can find the full details on the Jardins Abertos website here.

In 2024, 28,000 people made the most of the festival, so expect your visits to be busy ones.
