City-wide light show Vivid Sydney kicks off for 15th edition City-wide light show Vivid Sydney kicks off for 15th edition
Vivid Sydney is lighting up the Harbour City once again as the city-wide event returns for its 15th edition.
Held annually since 2009, with a pause between 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s event will take place between 23 May and 14 June.
Across the 23 nights, there will be more than 200 events across five unique zones: Martin Place and CBD, Circular Quay and The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, The Goods Line and Inner City.
Speaking of this year’s theme, ‘Dream’, Vivid Sydney Festival Director Gill Minervini said, “This year, we invite you to dream—without limits, without borders—as you immerse yourself in our most diverse, interactive and ambitious program yet.
“Wander through glowing installations and projections that invite you to play, reflect and connect. Soak up genre-spanning sounds, from free gigs to global icons. Expand your thinking through bold, original conversations and exclusive experiences. Follow your senses as leading local and international chefs serve up flavours from every corner of the globe.”
Vivid Light sees some of the city’s most iconic landmarks lit up, including the Sydney Opera House, which has been transformed in a technicolour tribute to the late David McDiarmid with works from four key bodies of his work. Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylons is being taken over by colourful gumballs, macarons, popcorn and more thanks to Spinifex Group, while you’ll have the chance to see your own art projected onto ASN Clock Tower as works will be selected weekly from community contributions as well as submissions from the 2025 Charity Partner, the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation.
Artists including Signur Ros, Ahohni and the Johnsons, Ezra Collective and Mount Kimbie will perform as part of Vivid Music, while Vivid Ideas will see talks with Martha Stewart, Emmy Award-winning actors Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, and TIME’s Creative Director D.W. Pine.
A feast not just for the sights, Nigella Lawson is headlining an exclusive underground dining experience in the Muru Giligu Tunnel beneath Martin Place. Plus, the Vivid Chef Series will see inventive collaborations between James Lowe of Lyle’s London and Mat Lindsay at Ester, as well as French luminary Claude Bosi with Brent Savage at Eleven Barrack.
