Campers will be given information around wildlife they can track to help with conservation data as well as activities they can do to help rewilding efforts, such as removing invasive plants

Wild camping, aka pitching your tent outside of a designated campsite, can be incredibly rewarding. You might not have the convenience of facilities, but there’s no one to disturb you, either, allowing you to really reconnect with nature.

And now CampWild, the tool connecting campers with landowners willing to let them pitch up a tent for a fee, has partnered with Rewilding Britain to open up a whole new range of campsites in Britain within rewilding sites.

Through the agreement, members of CampWild will be able to stay overnight in ‘ReWild Spaces’ across the country ranging from ancient woodlands and wildflower meadows to remote riverbanks and upland moors. Ahead of any stay, campers will be given an information sheet detailing the wildlife in the area, a species checklist so you can help with the collection of conservation data, and any micro-conservation activities you can take part in such as removing invasive plants and tree care.

The agreement will open up dozens of sites that have previously been inaccessible to the public for overnight stays.

Tom Backhouse, co-founder of CampWild, said, “Rewilding Britain is doing extraordinary work to help restore nature, and this partnership is a pioneering step forward. For the first time, people will be able to experience these spaces up close – camping in places where biodiversity is returning, species are being reintroduced, and landscapes are healing.

“It’s not just about access; it’s about connection. The more people connect with nature, the more they value and protect it.”

ReWild Spaces include Kinkell near St. Andrews in East Scotland, Mapperton Wildlands in Dorset, and Heggs Farm in the Yorkshire Dales.

As part of the agreement, £1 from every CampWild membership will be donated to Rewilding Britain.
