“Theyyam is a popular ritual of Kolathunadu (Kingdom of Kannur). The Theyyam dance is performed in front of the village shrine, groves and in the houses as ancestor worship. Man assumes the form of God and dance propitiating and appeasing them. There is a deep belief behind the performance of Theyyam. This photo was taken during one such religious ceremony.”
