Join Fundy National Park rangers and scientists to help count the fish numbers as they attempt to re-establish in the rivers. A dry suit, snorkel and training are provided as well as lunch and transport from park HQ. All you need do is drift and count.

2. Do nothing at all on the Kingston Peninsula

3. Go whale watching off Campobello Island

Unmissable – whether you see the North Atlantic right whale or not. Island Cruises Whale Watch, run by Mackie Greene of the Whale Rescue, is surely the best on Campobello Island. Trips go three-times daily in season. In St Andrews, Jolly Breeze also offers trips by Zodiac or tall ship.

4. Explore the Roosevelt legacy

The holiday home of the Roosevelts (Dreamstime)

Wander the grounds of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s old holiday home, then hear tales of the First Lady’s life at the daily Tea with Eleanor. It’s free at 11am, but costs C$14 (£8) at 3pm.

5. Meet marine life

Fundy Bay, Canada (Dreamstime)

The Bay of Fundy is naturally gorgeous, though you’ll want to meet its residents. No, not just the locals. Meet the area’s many marine animals. The staff at Huntsman Aquarium and Marine Science Centre will share their knowledge.

Where to visit: Huntsman Marine Science Centre

6. Hike Saint Andrews

The beautiful town of Saint Andrews (Dreamstime)

This picturesque town has a number of trails to follow, including a jaunt to Ministers Island (tides permitting) and a stroll by Pagan Point Nature Preserve, which take in views of seals at Passamaquoddy Bay and offers the chance to spy red squirrels and deer.
