A new luxury train route between Madrid and Seville is set to launch in 2026.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Al Ándalus will have the Spanish capital as the start or end point of its seven-day, six-night journeys for the first time in its history.

Currently, Al Ándalus, which is operated by Spain’s national railway company Renfe, offers scenic routes between Grenada and Seville, but the new route will expand to include destinations including Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid.

Along the way, you’ll also stop in cities such as Aranjuez, Toledo, Cáceres, Mérida, Córdoba, Jerez and Cádiz. The slower paced journey allows you to really soak up the sights, and passengers will get to see top attractions including the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, the windmills of Campo de Criptana, the Roman ruins of Mérida and the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, as well as the famed equestrian show in Jerez.

Trains make use of historic carriages once in operation during the early 20th century, and guests can choose between the Deluxe Suite or the Grand Class Room – both of which have private bathrooms.

Renfe currently operates three other luxury tourist trains: El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, between San Sebastián and Santiago de Compostela; Costa Verde Express, between Bilbao and Santiago; and El Expreso de la Robla, between Bilbao and León.

The news comes after Renfe unveiled its Spain Rail Pass earlier this year, an option for tourists looking to use the operator’s long distance trains to get around.
